A Snowy Valentine

I like snow. I like a lot of snow. I like the way it slows things down. It’s a little reminder that we’re not really in charge of anything, despite our high falutin manners.

Roundhouse owner Bob McAlpine reports a fully booked hotel, restaurant, and event space for the Valentine’s/President’s Day weekend. This extension of the cocktail reception area probably will not be completed by then, though not for lack of trying.

Some kind of art display was lurking in this Beacon Building window.

Mail truck in the snow

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night
stays these couriers from the swift completion of
their appointed rounds.

Not the official Post Office motto, but the words are inscribed in granite at the New York City branch on 8th Avenue. The phrase is translated fromĀ The Persian Wars by Herodotus.
