Sorry for the late notice. The walkway was closed most of the day Tuesday as well. If you cross before 8am and return after about 4:30, you should be okay. The bridge authority has had signs up for a few days, though the wind blew them down on Tuesday. They also sent us a press release on May 12, but we were remiss in posting it here:
Newburgh-Beacon Bridge Pedestrian Walkway to Close
Tuesday-Wednesday, May 17-18, for Maintenance
The Pedestrian Walkway of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge will be closed between 8AM and 4PM on Tuesday May 17 and Wednesday, May 18 for maintenance work.
The work is weather dependent.
The Bridge Authority will post updates on its Facebook and Twitter feeds for status and any changes in the schedule.
This is the second of four temporary closures this spring to perform necessary maintenance work. The Bridge Authority regrets any inconvenience to those wishing to use the pedestrian walkway while maintenance work is performed.
Wigwam will resume regular weekly postings next week.
