The three best things about being a teacher may be June, July, and August, but what’s a working couple to do with junior all summer long? Fear not! Send her to Common Ground Farm summer camp for a week or three. There are still a few openings available for weeks in late June, July, and August. Each week has a theme such as Good Food, Young Farmers, and Nature and Art.
Kids will get to explore their relationship to food and to nature through hands-on experiments, movement, games, and art. They’ll spend lots of time in the garden, at the pond, in the field, in the barn, and along the nature trails. There will also be lots of time for tractor tag, sprinklers, and other fun games to keep cool under the summer sun.
It’s important for all of us to reconnect, but according to Common Ground Farm’s education director Sember Weinman, kids can get it in a much more basic way, and it can be critical to their outlook on life. “This connection affects your relationship with the world—how you think about it, and how you take care of it.”
Here’s what one happy parent had to say: “I just wanted to take a quick moment to let you know how much my child enjoyed summer camp at the farm. We did a few camps and it was BY FAR her favorite! The camp was wonderfully run and she had so much fun. My only regret was not signing her up for longer! ”
Each group is limited to 12 children and will be led by an adult educator and a counselor. Children bring a lunch and snack. This will be supplemented by fresh food grown in the farm garden.
